Expertise is a kind of cage
Experts are indispensable, and they are also stuck in a specific way. Years of knowing how things are done leaves you with a detailed map of why they cannot be done differently. Every shortcut has a scar attached. That map is exactly what stops an expert from walking into the empty field next to the path, because they already know, or believe they know, that there is nothing there.
The beginner asks the question the expert has quietly learned to stop asking.
Beginner's mind as a method, not a mood
This is not about being naive. It is a discipline: refusing to accept "that is just how it is done" as an answer, and starting from the plainest possible question instead. Not "how do we make today's AI a little better," but "why does it work this way at all, and what would it look like if it did not." Most of the interesting territory in any field is guarded by an assumption nobody has questioned in years.
How this shows up in what we build
We named the company after this on purpose. When we started ELVARA, we asked embarrassingly basic questions. Why does the AI agree with everything I say? Why does it forget who I am the moment I close the tab? The industry had long since stopped asking, because the answers were inconvenient. Following those beginner questions honestly is what led us somewhere different.
